The name of the Dutch former Minister of Finance Piet Lieftinck is still known to many people because of Lieftinck's tenner.
Just after the Second World War, on September 26, 1945, all Dutch people received ten guilders during the major money purge that Lieftinck initiated. During the week in which all old banknotes and coins had to be handed in - and then exchanged for new money - people had to survive on these ten guilders.
